Part of why I advocate for a regular eating pattern around the liturgical calendar is because if you're not doing the regular things, you don't notice the extraordinary things.

Usually, regularly, Friday is a fasting day. A day of special devotion to fasting and prayer.
Today, Friday in Easter, is a feast day. Every day in the season of Easter is a feasting day.

I am jolted today. It feels *different* to be feasting today.
And with this jolt, I remember...ALLELUIA! CHRIST IS RISEN!

If Fridays were just days? Just days like any other?
It wouldn't make me a bad person or anything. But I wouldn't be experiencing a jolt of resurrection either.

I highly recommend a jolt of resurrection when it comes your way.

My husband and I have a Diner Date most Thursday mornings. After the kids are off to school, we go to a diner just down the road from us. They know I like decaf coffee and my husband likes regular. They know he'll likely order an eggs benedict and I will ask to substitute grilled tomatoes for hash browns.

I just finished reading "eucharist with a small 'e'" by M.T. Winter (who was also one of my professors this semester) - one of the invitations of that book is to realize that the Eucharist liturgy we've evolved from the Last Supper (take, eat, this is my body...) is just a part of what Jesus was doing that night.
He was eating. With his friends.
The book goes on to explore all the times Jesus teaches through and at table fellowship - with the stories he told and the food he ate and those he ate with.

M.T. asks us to notice those times in our lives when we experience that kind of connection with one another - through love, with food.
In that paradigm, I think my weekly Diner Date with my husband could be considered a small "e" eucharist. We prioritize it and give thanks for it in our busy lives. We prioritize and give thanks for each other.

On the last night of my Jesus Beyond Christianity class (Zoom), which is my last class of my seminary career, we're doing a small "e" eucharist together.

I had nothing in the house remotely like bread or wine. So, chocolate drizzled popcorn and seltzer it is.

Which may be for the best? I believe in the spirituality and holiness of shared food with all my heart...and that Eucharist is a really specific thing.
I'm sort of okay with being clear what this is not.
Allows me to be open to what it is.

But I am having FEELINGS y'all.

The food at Camp Washington is always a feast. IYKYK.

Spent 24 hours on retreat this weekend with my fellow nominees, postulants, and candidates for Holy Orders this weekend. Fed by Chef Ben's delicious food and by the companionship and laughter of my peers.
